Camo, Jerusalem and Reading

Well, it was a few months ago that we got these really cool camo shirts from Nana and Grandpa John when they went to Nate's boot camp graduation. So here are some shots of what the boys look like.
I realize that he is nearly invisible but do you see his lack of teeth? The lower, center teeth are gone and he is quite proud of his gap!

Now, this kid is really hard to see, he has made it more complicated to see him. See what I mean?





He is adamant that he was wearing it his way. So be it!

Jerusalem

So the kids are in Jerusalem this week:

Okay, they are actually attending VBS. The third new program for this summer. This church is doing a 4 year program and so we are in year 2 with them this summer.

Aren't they the cutest little Hebrews you have ever seen? Well, actually one of them was determined to be a soldier - so I guess that makes him a Roman!

And of course the musical lassie:

And to top of a rather good day, we turned in the reading charts at the library for the summer reading program. And wow! are the prizes plentiful this year. This is how we celebrated for this evening..... there are several more restaurant freebies to use!!!

Yes, daddy came along and celebrated reading with us. Well, he does a large part of the reading-aloud that earns the littler guys all of their minutes.

So free dinners for the kids, we splurged and bought them dessert and of course meals for ourselves. How did it all end up costing ~$40?!?

The cost of sweet memories:

c: "these fries are the best, better than McDonalds!"

j: "can we have breakfast here?"

g: "this (maraschino) is the best cherry ever, better than the frozen ones"

Janey's Side Pursuits

Here is my neighbors and I working on the last stage of landscaping our neighborhood entrance way.

For the past 30 years the entrance had signs but no landscaping. It was a wild, brown tangle of weeds: goat heads and thistles!

We started this project 4 years ago and it has been a lot of work. As well as a lot of money. And patience.

Our committee has stayed steady, with a few people coming and going. But we reached our goals and the neighborhood now has an anchored entrance that is attractive.

Now it is installed and looks very pretty! And I am free to move off to a new neighborhood and start a new civic service committee to beautify another place in the world.
