This is the second "drive-able" (and I use that word loosely) version of the backyard buggy.
As in "I took it for a spin, tried to turn too fast and while it went one direction, I went rolling off along the asphalt and darn near broke something"
(I neglected to include a picture of my lovely purple-and-black toe..)
Key learning: 10mph is way too fast for the kids. (and apparently, for dad too.)
And it's not NEARLY done...just back to a state where it's got basic locomotion.
However, it's getting there! Final plans call for
- a more enclosed seat, facade front-end with bumper (maybe with a motor kill switch, I think)
- "pickup style" bed over the rear batteries/controller/motors so the kids can haul stuff. (dirt, rocks, toys, other kids...)
- I also still need to figure out how to wire in a reverse switch
- get a steering wheel on
- wire in a permanent charge system (alligator clips on each battery gets old)
- and, of course, a rockin paint job. Can't decide between fire engine red or army OD green...
Everyone had a chance to drive and ride in it Saturday (while dad controlled the throttle). Big hit. The big girl steered with precision and restraint. The big and little dudes did their best to induce motion sickness.
